Good Women Association (GWA) is dedicated to protecting, empowering, and uplifting vulnerable women, girls, and children in Nigeria through compassion, evidence, and community action. Its focus areas tackle interconnected issues like gender-based violence and economic exclusion, while promoting rights and dignity.
At GWA, we believe that every woman, girl and child deserves to live free from discrimination, oppression, and violence. That’s why we champion gender equality and human rights through advocacy, education, and grassroots mobilization. Our team works closely with communities to shift harmful norms, promote women’s leadership, and ensure women know and can claim their rights. We also provide direct support to survivors of gender-based violence, helping them access justice, safety, and healing.
Access to quality health services is a fundamental right. We prioritize the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of women and girls by offering accurate information, health education, and referrals to care. From HIV/AIDS, STIs, malaria, and tuberculosis prevention to maternal health services, our health programs are designed to reach the most underserved. We also run behavioral change campaigns that address stigma, promote healthy choices, and encourage early health-seeking behavior.
We understand that lasting change happens not just at the grassroots but also at the policy level. That’s why GWA engages in advocacy to influence gender-sensitive legislation and public health policies that protect and empower women. Through town hall meetings, media campaigns, and policy dialogues, we give voice to the lived realities of vulnerable populations. We also conduct and use community-led research to support our campaigns and hold decision-makers accountable.
Empowerment is not just a goal—it’s a process. GWA supports women and young girls to build the skills and confidence they need to achieve economic independence. We provide vocational training in trades such as tailoring, hairdressing, catering, and digital literacy. Many of our beneficiaries go on to start small businesses or join cooperatives that lift them out of poverty. We also promote literacy and financial education to ensure sustainable growth and self-reliance.
Many women face systemic barriers to justice, especially survivors of violence or exploitation. GWA bridges this gap by offering legal aid, connecting women with pro bono lawyers, and providing them with information about their rights. We also collaborate with law enforcement agencies and judicial actors to build a more gender-sensitive legal response system. Our outreach campaigns help reduce fear and stigma, empowering women to report abuse and seek redress.
Research is at the heart of our programming. We gather and analyse data to understand the evolving needs of the communities we serve, ensuring our interventions are relevant, effective, and sustainable. Our research informs our advocacy efforts and strengthens the evidence base for policy reform. By listening to the voices of vulnerable women and documenting their experiences, we develop programs that reflect their realities and address the root causes, not just the symptoms.
Real stories from the women and communities we've had the privilege to serve and support.
From survivor to advocate
GWA not only helped me escape an abusive relationship but gave me the tools to rebuild my life. Today, I'm helping other women find their strength.
